The Importance of Being Earnest

The Importance of Being Earnest - Oscar Wilde I can't believe I haven't read this before, ugh. I've heard of this play, of course, but I honestly didn't know anything about it before reading it, except that it was funny.

I would love to see this performed because, as amusing as it was to read, I feel like actually seeing it acted out would be even better and induce more laughs. That isn't to say that I didn't laugh while reading it, but I think there might be a few things that would have been funnier performed instead of read.

This didn't feel like something written in the 19th century, at least to me. I felt like this could have easily been something composed in the mid-20th century, or even later, possibly. I think Wilde's writing has a sort of timeless quality that I really appreciate. His wit and humor are just as relevant today as they were in his own time, and I think he deserves to be crowned the king of sass to be honest.
